New Grant Committee
New Grant Committee
SVP grant committees are a popular way to dig deeper in our funding areas and evaluate investments in promising nonprofit organizations. A New Grant Committee focuses on each of SVP’s funding areas—Early Childhood Development, Environment, K-12 Education and Out-of-School Time. Each committee is made up of 10–12 Partners who spend five to six months learning about the issue area, developing criteria, evaluating applications, reviewing proposals and attending site visits. Youth of SVP Partners can join their own grant committee, Social Venture Kids.
The Commitment for New Grant Committee members
- First 6 weeks: In these regular weekly meetings Partners learn about the issue area we will be funding
- Next 2–3 months: With these less structured, small team meetings, Partners will develop evaluation criteria and review initial applications.
- Final 2 months: During this phase, Partners will evaluate proposals and attend site visits. Site visits are time intensive but are essential to choosing a great investment for SVP. They are also consistently the most valued aspect of the process by committee members.
