Green & Laser Focused
Have you ever tried to pick a restaurant with 10 friends? Juggling gluten intolerance, veganism, the localvore ... kinda crazy-making, right? Now imagine you’ve got 25 friends, and you’re not debating menus. You’re trying to decide which environmental issues you’ll fight for this year. And you only get three.
That’s what the Environmental Priorities Coalition does every year: 25 organizations mobilizing thousands to speak with one powerful voice.
In Olympia, competition for an elected official’s attention is fierce, and nonprofit resources are limited. Focusing on a few key issues is critical for success, which is why SVP Investees People For Puget Sound and Washington Environmental Council are all in.
On January 25, Environmental Lobby Day, they will fill the halls of the capitol with hundreds of citizen advocates – all pushing for the passage of the Environmental Priorities Coalition’s 2012 legislative package, which includes:
- Pollution-Free Prosperity: Preventing attempts to weaken, delay or roll back state environmental laws and programs that are critical for clean air, clean water, and healthy communities.
- Toxic-Free Kids: Protecting children’s health from cancer-causing flame retardants and helping to put businesses on the path to using chemicals that won’t harm the environment or the bottom line.
- Fulfill Our Clean Energy Initiative: Sustaining the success of I-937, our state’s voter-approved clean energy initiative, in bringing investments, jobs, and economic development throughout Washington.
Last year, 500 people in green scarves traveled to Olympia. Here’s a peek at their journey.
