Edit and Create an Online Publishing Strategy for Equal Opportunity Schools

EOS has a vast and complex program documentation that resides in several areas. They are looking for help to streamline and re-publish this documentation for all staff.

Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) changes lives and narrows the achievement gap by ensuring equal access to high-quality college preparation – available at most U.S. high schools in the form of Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes – for students of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

EOS is looking for a professional with a background in writing, online content publishing and online content management.  EOS has created valuable content describing their program. This program involves many steps, so the content is vast and complex. A recent effort has been completed to move the content online, and it is now available for new staff members to consume. The challenge is that the content sits in many disconnected Word documents, so it’s not easily consumable in any step-by-step fashion. The content is also too detailed for a new staff member who would first benefit from an overview and how-to instructions for completing a task. There is also considerable duplication in the existing content guide, which can be reduced to essential elements to make it easier for staff members to find key information.

They are requesting help with the following:

  • Create an online publishing strategy (we need this solved in the short term, but ideally want something  that can grow up with the long-term plans)
  • Select an online publishing tool to host the content or modify the existing online content (it lives in a Google Site now, has a basic Table of Contents in the left side navigation, and each topic in the TOC just links to a big documents (either Word, PowerPoint, or PDF)
  • Restructure the Table of Contents
  • Distill essential step by step information out of verbose documents (basically reduce 20 pages to 3, for about 5 documents)
  • Create a short series of overview topic that serves as an introduction to the how-to information

Anyone with editorial, content management and publishing experience for print and online will welcome to join the effort!

Anticipated Start Date: January 2012
