Map the Mountains to Sound Greenway Board Coalition
Mountains to Sound Greenway is looking for a volunteer who can work with the Executive Director and the Board Task Force to "map" the current Board of 60+ members and brainstorm ways to make best use of the information gathered.
On the Greenway Trust Board: The Board consists of 60+ influential business and governmental professionals. And while they call this their Board, this group of 60+ actually functions more like a coalition with the Greenway as their shared agenda. Their 15 member Executive Committee functions more like most Boards; and the 5 Officers function like most Executive Committees.
Enhance Coalition Capacity is one of 5 important goals in the Greenway Trust’s new Strategic Plan. And the Greenway Board is the Coalition. As they step up to meet the challenge of their new plan, the role of the Board/Coalition becomes ever more critical -- and the need to use each of them wisely and well becomes an important objective. To that end, The Greenway Trust wishes to fully understand the current Board with the intent of learning:
- How can we make highest and best use of our current Board?
- Who might we add to the Board to increase the breadth and power of our collective impact?
To achieve this, the Trust would like a skilled volunteer to guide the Executive Director and a Board Task Force through the creation and implementation of an effective Board mapping project to help them:
- Identify connections, skill sets, issue expertise, and geographic and/or demographic gaps in the current Board. Use this information to help the Board Nominating committee recommend the best possible candidates for new Board positions.
- Create a tool to help the Board understand at a glance who might help the Trust respond to urgent, high priority issues. Broaden the group of Board members whom the Trust currently calls on to address such issues. Find ways to help new Board members become active participants.
- Use the data collected as a tool to help the staff communicate more effectively with individual Board members by understanding at a glance which issues are most important to them.
More information available upon request. Please note, this project can be broken up into a few discreet phases.
Anticipated Dates: Fall 2011 - Spring 2012
