A critical governance responsibility of the board as a whole is to ensure that the organization has a realistic strategy for raising funds. As individuals, board members usually help implement that plan in various ways. We will focus on: Trainers: Adrienne and Ruby have presented this session for many years through United Way, always with excellent evaluations. Adrienne Caver-Hall is Recreation/Volunteer Coordinator, Central Park Districts, Seattle Parks and Recreation. Prior to that she served as Managing Director of Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center; provided organizational development and community outreach consulting for the African American Elders Project, and served for three years as the Director of Festival Sundiata. From 1990 – 1997 Ms. Caver-Hall served as Pacific Northwest Area Development Director of the United Negro College Fund, Inc. She has twenty-one years of experience in fundraising, event management and organizational development through her work and membership in various political and civic organizations in the community. In this workshop participants will further understand fundraising methods and the role of the board in fundraising.
Ruby Love is the Chief Development Officer for Washington STEM. Prior to WA STEM she was Director of the Gates Challenge with United Way of King County and worked for more than 15 years as a consultant to not-for-profit organizations. She is an active lecturer and trainer on topics of board governance, leadership development, diversity and racial justice in the non-profit community and philanthropy.
This is part of United Way of King County's board partnership series, a forum for executive directors and board chairs or key board members to network with colleagues, learn about specific governance topics and discuss issues facing their organizations. We encourage two or more from your board to attend together.
